Mark Dagley

“I am primarily a visual artist best known for abstract paintings which have been displayed at galleries, foundations, and museums throughout the Americas and Europe. I studied painting at the Corcoran School of Art in Washington, D.C, and video and electronic music at the School of the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston. I hold a Core Musical Skills certificate from The Juilliard School’s Evening Division.

My first guitar lessons were as a pre-teen with David R. Arnold (pupil of Sophocles Papas) in Washington, D.C. In high school, I was performing and recording with gospel street singer Flora Moulton. Throughout the late 1970s and early 1980s, I was performing in art-punk, blues and rock bands at numerous alternative venues in New York City, collaborating with Elliott Sharp, Lydia Lunch, George Condo, Steven Parrino, Neneh Cherry and many others.

I have also engineered and produced dozens of recordings on the Abaton Book Company label, including Marianne Nowottny, Julia Vorontsova, Sharon Van Etten, Indian classical vocalist, Veena Sahasrabuddhe and Obie/Emmy-winning playwright and screenwriter Rosalyn Drexler.

My guitar playing can be heard on Hearthan Records, Brasch Records, Feeding Tube, Gaff, Soul Jazz, Cherry Red, Perhaps Transparent and Zoar Recordings.

I have performed at Symphony Space, Boston Architectural Center, Walker Art Center, Wolftrap National Park and the The Manhattan School of Music.

I have had lessons with Denis Azabagić, Jason Vieaux and Lovro Peretić. I continue to study classical guitar privately with Gohar Vardanyan and Chaconne Klaverenga, as well as piano with Dr. Eric Martin.

I am a member of the The New York City Guitar Orchestra.”
